Do you ever feel dragged down in the afternoons after a long day? In the past, it would be natural for someone to grab a cup of coffee or an energy drink to help them get the boost they need to finish the day strong. Now, a new contender has entered the ring as your afternoon go-to when it comes to grabbing an energy boost, a Perrier?
Maybe you haven’t heard the news, but yes, Perrier is now making energizing carbonated water with 99 milligrams of caffeine per 8.46 fluid ounce can. That’s the same amount of caffeine as that evening cup of coffee with the ease of a pop-top can. Let’s learn a bit about this drink and where the caffeine inside comes from so you can decide whether you want to add Perrier Energize to your drink lineup.
What Is Perrier?
According to your age, you may have grown up hearing people call Perrier fancy water. In a way, it is. Perrier has been around for over 150 years. The water comes from the Les Bouillens spa in Vergeze, France. The spa’s doctor felt the spring water was therapeutic and that others should get to experience it. You know, instead of the rich who were visiting.
A British man, Sir John Harmsworth bought the spa and closed it to patrons. He then began to bottle the water for sale to the public. Shortly after starting the company, Harmsworth sold it to Gustave Leven, and the company became French-owned. After an unfortunate benzene scare in 1990, Perrier was once again sold, this time to the Nestle company where it remains today.
Is Perrier’s water naturally carbonated? Yes, it truly is. Volcanic activity is what makes the spring carbonated. There’s so much activity, in fact, that Perrier has to separate the water and the bubbles before bottling. Water bottled straight from the spring couldn’t be held safely in the glass bottles. Instead, the water and bubbles are reintroduced during the bottling process.
In the 80s, Perrier launched sparkling waters with a twist. They hoped adding a bit of lime and flavor would bring more people to their sparkling waters. That is the only true change the company has had over the years. Now, Perrier has decided to cash in on the energy craze by offering energizing sparkling water that isn’t full of sugar and calories like the competition. While the caffeine content in each can is pretty high, the caffeine comes from natural sources such as green coffee beans and yerba mate.
The new Perrier Energize offers 3 yummy flavors for caffeine enthusiasts to enjoy. Considering this is the first new flavor of Perrier in so many years, fans of the drink should be excited to try them. The new flavors are pomegranate, grapefruit, and tangerine. Let’s see how Perrier Energize stacks up against other energy drinks on the market.
|Perrier Energize||99 mg of caffeine|
